Luke 2 :10-11:  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

A couple of years after Jesus’s birth, wise men from the East came to worship Him, an event which deeply worried King Herod. Nobility from the East coming in this region to worship another king than himself was threatening news to an insecure king.

If it was true that Jesus was the Messiah as the wise men, the Pharisees and the priests verified, then Herod’s job was in jeopardy. He was so convinced of it that he had all the children of 2 years old and under killed.

If this baby truly came to be Lord and King, each of us should come to the same conclusion: my job as the ruler of my life is in jeopardy. Lots of people say, « I will take Jesus as my Savior, my healer, my provider, my protector and my shepherd. » but they cut the commitment and have the attitude:  « But whatever You do, Jesus, do not interrupt my plans, nor inconvenience my life. »

Each of us rejoice at Jesus’ role as Savior of our lives. We appreciate the forgiveness of sins and our many blessings, but we must pay more attention to the last part of the verse that tells us the baby came not only to be Saviour but He came also to be Lord.

Where He is Lord, we stop focusing on blessings, « Oh God bless me, bless me… » We cease being consumers, we cease being self-absorbed. Rather our focus now is being a blessing. There are lots of people who are believers but who are not yet disciples. We must become disciples to get His life message through us.

If your vision for blessings ends with you, you are a self-centered and immature Christian.  God has called us to be disciples and not to live unto ourselves. Yes, we receive the blessings but there is more to this Christian life than gorging ourselves on what Jesus has done for us. What about the people who have not heard yet? He wants to get His message through us.

The best gifts to give Jesus on His birthday is to bring people into His family, to share His love with other people and to overcome evil with good.

Can anyone come to know Jesus by being around you? Is He Lord or is He just Savior to you?
